I’m a huge fan of HomeGoods. It’s usually my go to place for home accents personally and for my clients. If you’ve never been to the store, let me help describe it. It’s a magical store that is completely stocked with a diverse selection of home decor, accent furniture, bedding, kids toys, unique foods, and a variety of other household goods and gifts. Everywhere you look there is always something interesting and unique. It’s almost hard to leave the store without buying at least one thing.
I frequent the store about once a week because I can usually find accent pieces for my clients at affordable prices. I go there often because their inventory is constantly changing. The company typically buys stock from outside sources and sells them at reasonable prices, or as they say on their website, “amazing finds at incredible savings.” That’s why their products fly off the shelf fairly quickly. I like to call it the “grab and go” store because if you don’t get it now, it probably won’t be there in an hour so you better just go ahead buy it and return it if it doesn’t work out.
What Type of Products Can I Find?
HomeGoods carries items such as rugs, wall decor, bedding, greenery, candles, vases, office decor, accent furniture, toys, kitchen products, pet products, glassware, throw pillows, blankets, unique foods, seasonal items and the list goes on. They literally have so much good stuff that I always get a little giddy going into the store because there is always something new to look at. I’ll even admit that I might get a wee bit jealous if I see someone walking by with something that I think is really great and kick myself for not getting there sooner to snag it. LOL!
How Often Does Inventory Change?
Daily. Stores typically receive trucks at least three times a week, maybe four around the holidays. The manager at the store near me said they receive trucks on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Usually Tuesdays and Thursdays they try to get the inventory into the store as quickly as possible and they’ll put out inventory over the weekend as they have time. Usually the weekends the employees are super busy because the store picks up a lot of traffic.
HOW IS THE EASE OF SHOPPING?
Products are grouped into categories around the store, but you’ll find some items displayed in the aisles. With signage hanging from the ceiling, it’s pretty easy to shop around and find what you need.
However, because there is a ton of items of various styles, it could be overwhelming to shop there. There is so much to look at and if you don’t know exactly what to look for or where to begin, you might end up walking right out of the store empty handed. Having a little patience and creativity, can go a long way.
There are no window displays or vignette to help guide you in selecting coordinating home decor. If you don’t mind scouring through the inventory, you’re likely to find some fantastic treasures. You might even find everything you need to decorate a room in one sweep or you may need to come back a second or third time to shop for the rest of the items you need to style your space.
Are Prices Affordable? What about the quality?
What I do love the most is the selection, affordability, and quality of products available. The prices are not outrageous and the quality is above average. Sometimes you’ll can find brand named items like Magnolia for all you Chip and Joanna fans. Since they offer incredible savings on products, you usually can buy several items for what you might pay for one item at a high end furniture or home store. So if getting more for your money is ideal, then this is a great place to start.
What Style of Products Can I Buy?
Glad you asked! I would say if you’re looking for affordable home accents and furniture, you’ll probably find items that fit the modern, transitional, traditional or farmhouse style on a regular basis. However, you might get lucky with pieces that work well for a industrial, mid-century modern, bohemian, or other style.
Is There a Tips and Tricks to Shopping at HomeGoods?
Yes and no. The best tip is to shop there often to see their ever changing huge selection. If you shop after a seasonal period, you can grab some deals on clearance for a bargain or, if products are damaged or have a minor flaw, you may find these items on clearance too.
Most items run on a cycle or season and get clearanced out after a period of time. The corporate office dictates which items get marked down and the store is required to do an inventory check periodically to mark down all items. Often they lower prices by 90%, 70%, 50%, 30%, and 20%. Once items reach their final end date and have not been sold, they are taken back out of the store and distributed otherwise.
If you are ever curious when an item was brought into the store, you can check their tag. One of the lines will have a month and year on it. So in the photo below, you will see 0918 listed as the third line on the right hand side. This item arrived in September of 2018. Depending on what type of product it is, it may be on a short term or long term cycle. For example, if this was for a standard sleeping pillow, it may have a longer shelf life since pillows don’t really have a seasonal cycle. However, when back to school happens, HomeGoods is likely to clearance pillows so they can get in a new batch of pillows.
Is There a Downside to Shopping at HomeGoods?
While there are a lot of good things about the store, there is a downside. They have very limited quantities of each item. It’s not like a retail store that carries multiples of the same item and you can leave and come back later and it should be in stock still. You may be lucky if they have two of the same item at one time. Like I said earlier, it’s best you buy whatever it is you like now then return it if it doesn’t work out for you because it may not be there the next time. Believe me, I’ve done this a time or two. This is why I mentioned earlier that it’s a grab and go kind of store. Just buy, think later.
Can I shop online? Where Can I find A HomeGoods Store?
HomeGoods is a great store and is a sister store to TJ Maxx and Marshalls. If you’re familiar with these stores, then just imagine their household section as an entire store with similar pricing. Because HomeGoods offers a unique experience in the store with an ever changing inventory, it does not offer an online shopping experience. However, to find a store near you, visit HomeGoods.com.
